[ADVICE]Fear & Anxiety While Being Questioned By A Professor
Anxiety is a psychological and physiological state characterized by cognitive, somatic, emotional, and behavioral components. These components combine to create an unpleasant feeling that is typically associated with uneasiness, fear, or worry. (Wikipedia)
Fear is an emotional response to a threat. It is a basic survival mechanism occurring in response to a specific stimulus, such as pain or the threat of danger. (Wikipedia)
I had a really huge problem with anxiety (Thanks God - past tense), and it's not pretty. I also noticed how students completely block when they are questioned. So I decided to make a list of some things that might help.
1) Breathe! Deeply and slowly. It helps, trust me!
2) When you're about to be called out, try repeating times table for yourself or count backwards from 100 or something similar (e.g. Try to count all supporting characters from Naruto) . This distracts you from panicking out.
3) When you block or get confused - stop. Then sigh, breathe in, clear your mind and continue to speak slowly.
4) When you're answering, try to imagine that you're not actually being questioned and that the teacher is your mate who's just going to be amazed by your knowledge. (Or something similar)
5) Imagine that you're not answering to be given a mark.
Unfortunately, I can't remember any more advices at the moment. More are on their way.
I hope.
